Fizzing Colors

Food coloring and vinegar dropped into baking soda = FIZZY FUN. This kept Vivi entertained for 30 minutes straight. We moved to a larger surface (a baking pan) and added more colors. Mom needs to remember this activity.

Giant Bubbles

Mommy and Daddy want to make giant bubbles for the parade. They're experimenting with making bubble solutions - trying to find a recipe that works well. I get to judge the bubbles.
Well, that bubble is pretty big - but I think we can do better.

Doing better.

Now that's a BUBBLE!!  I love bubbles.

July 28

I found a bug - it rolled itself into a ball. And then I squished it (oops).

Eclipse

Tonight the moon eclipsed 84% of the sun (as seen from Santa Barbara). Check out the eclipse images in the shadows (created when the spaces between the leaves of a tree act like pinholes). Vivi was more interested in all the dogs at the event than in any interesting shadows I pointed out.

Maker Faire

We went to Maker Faire
We saw some crazy bubbles
A clock (and a merry-go-round) made out of bicycles,

 a truck COVERED in Legos,

fire,

a robot "petting zoo,"

and lots more....

Time to go home

Science Play Lab

We went to the science playlab at the museum of natural history. It was targeted toward kids 4-8, but no one told Vivi. She had a blast.

Playing with blocks. Some of the blocks had magnets that attached to wall - kids made ramps and paths for balls to follow.

Looking at snakeskin on a light table.
At river station. Rocks were movable so that you could see how the rocks changed the boats' motion.
Vivi liked playing with the water.
and the little boats.
The earthquake table shook when the button was pressed.
Some of the blocks had Velcro wrapped around them.
