beans and fine motor skills

At Vivi's school, they do an activity where they give the kids dry beans and containers and they move the beans carefully from one container to the other. Apparently Vivi quite enjoys this at pre-school and it's good for fine motor skills. So we tried it at home. Ends up Vivi worked on her gross motor skills instead.

Mommy thought this would be an activity that wouldn't require much clean up - hahaha!

I like to throw the beans - by the handful. I try to get them in the bowl, but my aim is developing.

I pretended to help clean up - but I was really just making piles of beans to throw again.

 Did you all know that I am going to be in a parade?! It's a Fiesta Parade for children.

Granny made me a special dress to wear in the parade.

It's a great dress for dancing. Thank you Granny!

Here's the frame for the float - it's going to be a boat!

I noticed that Vivi tried to draw inside shapes I drew on her chalkboard, so I drew some balloons. Sure enough, she colored them in.

Vivi found some of Mommy's old toys (a space shuttle and airplane that carries the shuttle) on a shelf and have been "flying" them around the house saying "eeee eeee."

I chased this shadow all over and finally caught it!

Big girl bed

I have been working hard on learning to climb out of my crib and finally was able to get my foot up to the top rail. Mommy and Daddy were so impressed with my climbing that they graduated me to a big girl bed. Yay me! Now I can get in and out (and in and out and in and out and in and out) of my bed all by myself.

Things to do with chalk

Apparently our understanding of how to play with toys is very limited. We see blocks and think "build a tower" and chalk and think "draw a picture." To Vivi, however, objects don't have a history yet (see previous post on things to do with blocks). Today, Vivi explains things to do with chalk.

We will skip "draw on chalkboard" (too obvious a use).

Put them in Mommy's shoes. (Too bad the shoes aren't Sketchers brand - that would have been funny.)
